Thought of the Week

As part of the training scheme, I am part way through a post-graduate diploma in Health and Public Leadership. My current assignment is about the current and future needs of leadership in the NHS. The assignment question is based on a publication by The Leadership Commission at The King’s Fund, London, "The Future of Management and Leadership in the NHS: No more heroes." In this blog, I highlight the main arguments and the impact they can have on the NHS.

On Wednesday past, a small group attended an IHM Seminar, hosted at Knockbracken Healthcare Park. The keynote address was
by John Compton, chair of the HSC Review Panel and Chief Executive of the Health and Social Care Board, the commissioner for
HSCNI. In this piece, I suggest that working to best practice is a pre-requisite of any public health service and thus the
critical issue facing the review team, and in fact HSCNI is the marketing of the proposals and changes. It is so important
that we celebrate great care, not convenient care.

On the 17th October, the Chief Executive's of the six provider Trusts held a workshop in conjunction with the HSC
Leadership Centre and Realise Global, to work with their senior colleagues to develop a response to the imminent HSC
Review. In this piece, I have taken a greater look at the new technology on offer, "The Meeting Place."
